Building Bridges: Christian–Jewish Dialogue in Research, Teaching, and Public Life

On 18 May 2026, Rabbi Prof. Dr Jehoshua Ahrens and Prof. Dr. Dr. Jean Ehret delivered their joint inaugural lectures as newly appointed Honorary Professors of the Theologische Fakultät Trier.

Their appointment strengthens the Faculty’s commitment to fostering dialogue between the Abrahamic religions through research, teaching, and public engagement.

Addressing the theme “Christology as a Challenge in Christian–Jewish Dialogue,” the two scholars offered complementary perspectives on one of the most demanding questions in contemporary Jewish-Christian relations. Their subsequent public dialogue demonstrated how intellectual openness, mutual respect, and friendship can create space for meaningful theological exchange that remains rooted in one’s tradition.

By establishing this framework, the Theologische Fakultät Trier is creating an innovative platform that brings together academic research, university teaching, and public outreach in the service of Christian-Jewish dialogue.

The LSRS and the European Society for Catholic Theology warmly congratulates its Vice-President, Prof. Dr Dr Jean Ehret, on this distinction and wishes him every success in advancing a dialogical and synodal theology within this new academic context.
